Guide to Online Education Programs

Overview of the Types of Distance Learning Programs Available

If you've been considering distance learning, now is the time to get moving. With so many types of degrees and certificates available, there's never been a better time to get your education. No matter what it is you need to learn, you're practically guaranteed to find a distance learning program to satisfy your budget and your requirements.

High school programs, certificates, and more

While it's true that most people choose distance learning when they want to obtain or complete the requirements for a bachelor's degree, that isn't the only option. If you never finished high school, now you can, without moving back into your old neighborhood. If you've already got a bachelor's degree, you can continue your education by pursuing a master's degree. If you're not looking for a degree, there are literally hundreds of certificate programs to choose from, too. But that's not all! There are even self-paced courses designed for kindergarten, elementary, and middle school students.

With the high school programs, students can choose to pick up where they left off when they, for whatever reason, were not able to make it through to graduation. These students can enroll in specific subject courses or they can choose from the many GED programs. And those who have not yet started high school will find that they can complete all their high school coursework in a distance learning environment. For many, this is a preferred route.

When it comes to certificates, there seems to be no end to the options. Certificates are available in such fields as cosmetology, network security, network technology, criminology, financial planning, project management, contract management, human resources management, call center management, forensic nursing, accounting, teaching, marketing, food service, Java, UNIX, and more. Completing a certification program gives many people the focused study they need to further their careers and land better-paying jobs.

When it comes to a master's degree, the options are just as vast. Distance learning has become a popular choice because many students find themselves working full-time and juggling families and other obligations at this stage of their lives. Another factor driving the popularity of distance learning master's programs is that many of the prestigious colleges and universities now offer this type of learning environment.

Regardless of the level of instruction you seek, one thing is certain: Distance learning has come a long way during the past 20 years. Even though students are not physically situated in a classroom environment, they do have many of the same types of services and extra curricular activities that regular students have. In some schools students can participate in summer study, student council, learn foreign languages and hang out at the virtual student lounge.

Most of today's distance learning schools and programs incorporate state-of-the-art technology which eliminates much of the frustration that previously enrolled distance learning students frequently endured. So go ahead. Take a look at the many learning options now available to distance learning students.
